Very Good Condition Rifle percussion (Hawkins) Barrel Length 30 in. A Connecticut Valley Arms (CVA) .54 caliber percussion black powder rifle is a traditional sidelock muzzleloader typically modeled after classic designs like the Hawken or Mountain Rifle. Hawken & Mountain Rifle: Introduced in the 1970s and 1980s, these feature octagon barrels (often 28 to 34 inches), double-set triggers, and furniture made of brass or German silver. Origin: Most vintage CVA traditional sidelock rifles were manufactured in Spain. [1] Powder & Load: Users on Reddit generally agree that real FFG or FFFG black powder is ideal, with starting round-ball charges typically ranging from 55 to 90 grains by volume (never use modern smokeless powder).
