Model 37 Dash Feather Light 20 Guage 2 3/4 Chamber Dash Proof Tested Ithaca Sun Co. Inc. N.Y. Made In USA Roto Forged The Ithaca Model 37 (often called the Featherlight) is one of the most celebrated and enduring firearms in American history. Introduced in 1937 to compete with Winchester's iconic Model 12, it holds the record as the longest continuously produced pump-action shotgun in U.S. history. The most famous design trait of the Model 37 is its bottom loading and bottom ejection system. Because shells are loaded and ejected from the exact same port underneath the receiver, the sides of the gun remain entirely solid steel ("slab-sided"). The Benefits: This protects the internal action from rain, dirt, and snow. It also makes the gun completely ambidextrous, as left-handed shooters don't have empty shells flying across their face. [1, 2] The Origin: The design was originally patented by John Browning in 1915 and first sold as the 20-gauge Remington Model 17. Ithaca waited for those patents to expire, simplified the internals, and launched it in 12, 16, and 20 gauges
